Yes we are starting out small, but it'll grow, I just have the inkling in the back of my mind about this, tonight we talked about hope (and yes it was a Simpsons' Devo tonight, the episode where Lisa's sad and meets Bleeding Gums Murphy the jazz man) segued nicely into the plan for the coming youth year.

From today's Daily Office, a prayer for those addicted:
Blessed Lord, you ministered to all who came to you: Look with compassion upon all who through addiction have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of your unfailing mercy; remove from them the fears that beset them; strengthen them in the work of their recovery; and to those who care for them, give patient understanding and persevering love. Amen.

Francis Study: Simplicity Prelude
Next week Br. Michael takes us to Franciscan Simplicity--the way Jesus lived his life if you will.
I have been blessed this week reading the Nikos Kazantkis book Saint Francis.
Br. Elias was known as the Franciscan Judas, he would take over the order when Francis retreated to the Desert (monks and nuns retreated to the Desert to face the desert and go deeper with God). This is when the stigmata would wash over Francis completely.(the stigmata is the marks of the crucifixion, Francis was the first recorded case in history).
But why did Francis retreat to the Desert with Br. Leo?
Br. Elias rose up to rival Francis for leadership in the order. Where Francis talked about Holy Poverty, and Perfect Love, and completely bareness before the Lord.
Br. Elias talked about fattening poverty up, and splendour.
Where Jesus preached the narrow road to God, Elias said it was the wide road, Francis said the wide road was Satan's Affluence, and his followers, turned from God.
To follow Br. Elias' vision of Franciscans as academics; Franciscans in a palatial cathedral; and Franciscans wearing fine robes and eating the best and richest foods, drinking the best wines--The fattening up of Holy Poverty, and showing Perfect Love through adornments of gold and jewels in crafting churches to the Lord.
It brings to mind what Simplicity is, simplicity is eliminating that which keeps you from the Lord, and it can truly be anything.
I worked this study on simplicity with a colleague once, she was classed as a very "devout" follower in her church. She taught Sunday School, ran the nursery, the youth group and young adult group and adult sunday school. Found services to attend 7 days a week (sometimes twice a day); read everything published in the Christian bookstore, listened exclusively to Christian Music, had not television/radio and if invited to a friend's to watch a movie, it had to be a Christian one. Only art in her place was christian, I am sure you get the picture--on the outside front she was probably holier than the Pope.
The problem was, she had no ability to pray or read the word on her own; she did not understand what it meant to actually serve the Lord or what her calling was. She could not understand why everything was so hard and why she felt so tired in her walk.
She said she lived simply, only let things in that were Christian in her life (including friends) but always felt so tired and that the demands were stacking up.
I asked her simply, everything you do, and everything you have, does it bring you closer to God or have you lost God?
She sat there, realizing that she could no longer pray with passion, and could not remember the last time she opened her Bible just to read it.
As we explored how to simplify her life, she realized she had to give up the exterior show...her simplicity was not in materialism or the world...but rather surrendering the Christian sub-culture to rediscover her faith.
As you prepare this week to explore Franciscan simplicity...contemplate what in your life truly keeps you from God, and take steps to remove it.

Children's Lesson August 28
So it was the story from Matthew where Jesus calls Peter Satan. So to teach the kids today I started off getting a volunteer and had them go up the isle, "on their way to church this morning they found five dollars" and tossed out a five dollar bill from my pocket, my volunteer picked it up.Then I asked the rest of the kids:What would your friends want you to do with the money? What would your parents tell you to do with the money? What would God want you to do with the money? What do you choose to do with the money? The lesson being God would want you to find the owner and return it, that following God's call on our lives may not always be the easiest choice, but it is the best one.

King David Review
Kyle Baker is a man of many talents. Besides writing the amazing Plastic Man series bi-monthly for DC Comics (well worth the $4 a month just for entertainment value) he has also, under the Vertigo imprint, done an amazing Biblical retelling. It is the story of David as replayed in cartoony style vividness from the Bible...quite accurate, and for the humour (A+++) if you are of the more emotional persuasion, he did dedicate it to his grandmother.Well worth the $24.95 at chapters.ca

Part of my dailyoffice (morning) was a prayer for children and teens of the world, and I just felt like sharing it:
God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It is warped, being the man of the Bible glides through my hands to others quite easily that the cementing way I would know the person I am to marry is--lol--they would give me a Bible inscribed for Christmas....

Prayer for Canadian Troops
It was amazing to watch our peace keepers in Kandahar playing with the kids, and joking around with the adults as they made their sweeps to root out the Taliban. Rebuild the hospitals, wells, and schools needed to restart the infrastructure of the country. It is a time of stress for friends and families of Canadian Soldiers left behind in Canada as they are on alert for ship out.It is also a time of ultimate stress for the families and loved ones left behind on the soldiers, relief workers and RCMP officers already shipped out. Please hold all these people and Afghanistan up in prayer, 20 years for a new world, 20 years is a long time, but remember, this is what Canada does...We bring peace and hope to the hurting in the world, and if we didn't the world would be a darker place. So please pray for those risking their all on the front lines, as one soldier put it, what is your fear in the field. "Getting shot and missing Mother's Day for my mum."
Please Pray.

Jesus Wept...
There's a crisis in Health Carewait lists are too long
Guess King Ralph, shouldn't have blown up those hospitals
There's a crisis in hospital-costs are out of control
Prince Jim (Dinning)-Shoulda adjusted for inflation
There's a crisis in health careDoctors and Nurses are poorguess King Ralph
Shouldn't have regionalized
There's a crisis in social servicestoo much financial neglect
too many children seized
Guess King Ralph shouldn't have cut welfare
stopped homosexuals from being foster parents
There's a crisis in Iraq
King Paul says send in the troops
Prince Stephen says we can't
A year ago they both sung different tunes
As our troops bounce around
fixing the world
never to see loved ones again
on their leaders mad Crusade
We have the best Shelter System in North America
Ten Miracles a day as people get off the street
healed
educated
as 2,000 more come in to stay
Only difference between now
and 100 years ago
is our mats are thicker
as women
and men
still turn tricks to put bread on the table
and King Ralph
tosses pennies
at the penniless
We have a housing crisis
King Paul
King Ralph
Prince Kevin
and Prince Stephen
remain silent
it takes away prime real estate
as fiefdom Dave talks about a shelterless downtown
to keep the poor
poor
the addicted addicted
Duke Ray gets another raise
and a pint raised
to King Ralph
who gives a stipend for the c-train
and tosses a starving dog
a small bone
$7 minumum wage
With no rent ceilings
basic food (blue box or other) high priced
no public insurance
no guarantee of human rights
Don't sweat
free market fixes everything
the demand will drop the price
as evictions go up
and $12 an hour with a roommate,
maybe one can live
in the wealthy Kingdom of Calgary
Fiefdom Dave votes himself another raise
as Fire Chief sayeth that that 300-400 more firemen needed
to keep Calgarians alive as our castles burn
Fiefdom Dave cheers 45 more as another house goes up and did that baby make it out
For the love of money King Ralph waves labour laws
for Sour Gas Wells
as 300,000 Calgarians could die
for another penny in the bank
The debt is goneor is it shifted to a slush account
to evaporate in 14 years instead of paid off
a true matriach passes
to the Big Garden in the Sky
and school children weep
as they say good byeto their friend
A football hero
rises again
and risks his jobas he decries "Butt out" against
King Ralph and his band
Another million in the bank
another manfalls asleep
outside in Calgary
never to see morning again
as another raise is voted
by Fiefdom Dave
Duke Art decries the horrors of Same-Sex Marriage
as he gleefully votes against Kyotoa
child suffocates
from progress in the air
A cry for living wage
told "Thank you for your concern"
Baron Moe
does not care,
he got off scott freefrom illegal dealings
and identity falsification
as another MLA
is given a nice severance package
and retirement
for choosing not to run again
King Ralph lifts a pint
and says he'll fight gays
to the end
no matter the cost
but won't talk health care...
The wealthy, the rich
they are secure
they control all
as userfees rise taxes fall
and no wayfor the poor to recoup
as another middle class family
becomes working class
or working poor...

Christian CDs to Keep an Eye Out For
Lots of excellent Christian music out or coming out this month and next. Here are some of my suggestions that I've added to my music library or will be soon.
Lots of excellent Christian music out or coming out this month and next. Here are some of my suggestions that I've added to my music library or will be soon.
- Audio A - Until My Heart Caves
- Casting Crowns - Life Song - Available August 30th
- Big Daddy Weave - What I was Made For
- Inhabited - The Revolution
- Formerly Blind - Between the Dirt & the Ionosphere
- Todd Agnew - Reflections of Something - Listen to songs off of his new CD go to http://www.purevolume.com/toddagnew or http://www.myspace.com/toddagnew
- Casting Pearls - Debut
- David Crowder - A Collision - Sept 27th
- Bart Millard (MercyMe) - Hymned - he did this CD in honor of the hymns his grandmother loved. The twist on The Sweet By and By is cool. I read one review that said the CD was nothing great and suggested you could find a better collection of hymns just about any where. Hello, doing in honor of his grandmother! Sheesh, some people are so callous.
- Kutless - Strong Tower
- SonicFlood - This Generation
- SuperChick - Beauty for Pain
- Nicole C. Mullen - Everyday People
- Nichole Nordeman - Brave
- Salvador - So Natural
- ZoeGirl - Room to Breathe
New Jonah33 singles - I hope this means they're going to come out with a second CD soon. ;D Check them out at www.myspace.com/jonah33 and www.purevolume.com/jonah33
My friend just sent me Joy Williams - Genesis that I'll be listening to soon. Well that's my Christian music update. If anyone has something to add let me know. Always looking for good CD's to add to my diverse mix. (grin) Be Blessed! - SCW in AZ
Francis Study-Prelude Part Two (from John Michael Talbot's The Lessons of St. Francis) there are some PDF files that were attachments, maybe SCW is smart enough to get them on here, otherwise here is Prelude Part Deux
Hope you have had time to ruminate on the earlier prelude and thought I would start off with a quote that you can add questions to and meditate on.

AN ODE TO MICHAEL OF THE MAASAI
A band of good Samaritans led by a saintly manIn Sub-Saharan Africa they're doing what they canTo ease the pain and suffering of drought and povertyDaily they are working midst the scourge of HIV.
Over here in Canada and in the USAIn the lands of plenty we've forgotten how to prayWe've forgotten "Jesus": Do unto the least of theseDaily television spreads the words of Pharisees.
Michael Meegan toils amongst the poorest of the poorMidst HIV and famine and midst drought and tribal warfor several decades he has worked to help his fellow manLook in your heart, write a cheque, help us if you can.
I met this good man "Michael" who dwells with the MaasaiHe lives with dying children and their story made me cryTainted water and malnutrition, open sores and HIVGiving comfort to the wounded like the Prince of Galilee.
Michael actions the works of mercy as he toils amongst the tribesIn the Ngong Hills of Kenya he is bringing joy to livesHis, is a life of dedication, a life of selfless loveFor his fellow human travellers on the road to God above.
Ch. 14 Francis: His Life and Legacy-Read before proceeding
p. 243- Just reflect on the course of life others expected for you. Where were you supposed to be? Where did you think you were going? What did others think when you answered your call? Where is your call too?
Reflect on this snapshot of the life of Francis, the son of his days Bill Gates, turning his back on all the wealth in the world to live as a beggar. Reflect on the statements made in the Gospel to Jesus, about only being the Carpenter's Son when he tried to preach in his home town. How much of what we are expected to be is tied to our parents?
p.246-Reflect on Francis' call from God. He got it wrong, how many times have you misheard God? or misunderstood-share if you feel.
I love the line about it taking 2 more churches and many years before Francis realized Jesus wanted him to quit the construction trade--How many times are we plugging away in our own direction-happily thinking we have heard Jesus right, only to be two-by-foured by the almighty?
p.247-248 what are your thoughts on the three Gospel passages that inspired Francis?
p.249 Second paragraph, the Celano quote, what are ways the church takes the Gospel message off track today?
botttom of p.250 & top of 251-"Francis sought not only to follow the Word of Christ, he wished also to imitate the life of Christ as perfectly as he could, and he willed that his friars too should follow the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ." -Thomas A. Kempis
Reflect on this in conjunction with Matthew 16:13-20: Who is Jesus to you and what does it mean to walk in his footsteps?
Final Reflection-Murray Bodo Francis: The Journey and the Dream-Open attachement. It is from p. 15-17 "The Crucifix Speaks"
From To Live as Francis Lived Refelction 6 "Christ-The Masterpiece Planned from all Eternity"
Desert Wisdom Quote to close;Desert Wisdom
Abba Sisoes said Seek God, and not where God lives.
That is all for August, in September we start into the Spiritual meat if you will with our first lesson on Simplicity Franciscan Style (or as I like to say, how to own nothing, yet still loose your Bible in your undercrowded room).

A Study on John Michael Talbot's The Lessons of St. Francis.
There is an intro and ending chapter of the work that deal with who St. Francis was...these will serve as our prelude before delving into the Spiritual Formation end.
Before reading this reflection and commenting please read Chapter One of the book, it is titled "A Tangible Saint"
Comments:
p.1 I always enjoy comparisons of today's world with times gone by, and the idea that the traditional organizational structure may not work (quirky fact: the last successful church plant in Calgary was a monastic community-in 2004).
Just think of what kind of world existed in the means of violence and oppression (a good example is an inner-city life, or the kind of world that exists for those of lower castes in the 2/3 world).
p. 3 first full paragraph: Reword this as you read it for your own life, as a prayer--God make me like Christ, let me be as St. Francis was---a fool in the World's eyes, but the Gospel written on my heart to serve those who need love the most.
p.4-5 The Nativity Scene was first created as a means to tell the story for all to understand, take some time, reflect and scribble ways your church can SHOW the Gospel....a good practice is to write out the quote "Preach always. If neccesary use words." and post it where you work & in your Bible as a simple reminder, that telling people about Jesus does not work, living Jesus--changes the world around us.
p. 7 I like the examples used to explain Sunday Christianity to an adult audience; what are some examples that we can use to communicate to our youth what being a Christian is not? (i.e. it is not a skatepark pass--)
last full paragraph-his prayer...how many times when we are lost in misery we cry out to God about the unfairness, or the what the is going on...but going back a few pages to the quote of Celeno--striving to bend our will to God's will. If you accomplish this feat how does that change the way you would look at the way your life unfolds?
p.8 What does it mean to radically love as Francis did during the Crusades, in the post-9/11 War of Terror world in which we live? Silently ask God to open your heart to his will and what it means to live this drastically different
p. 9 last paragraph:
imagine the pageantry of the Vatican--and this ragamuffin ensemble dressed worse than beggars coming to be ordained as a religious order from the Pope...with the man deemed mad by his town. Just imagine the smile on Christ's face when we throw away cultural norms and just be the love.
p. 10 I love the Pope's response, shifting from the guilt trip, to realizing that a life of simplicity focused on Christ does something new--brings us back to original innocence. (go to Genesis 1-2 what does original innocence mean to you?)
reflect on the G.K. Chesterton quote on this page (he wrote an amazing biography on Francis if you have a piqued curiousity read it, if time is short, read Robert Kennedy Jr.'s faboulous children's book: A Life of Joy)
pages 10-13 Talbot reflects on the challenges in general to the Christian walk in North America, in his case America, there are many challenges in Canada as a social-capitalist nation, that the church downloads its responsibility for care of the poor to the government for instance.
There are many generalizations that can be listed but it would be intriguing to reflect on your life of transformation under God and if you feel so called to share what transformations have taken place in your own life:
I freely admit to enjoying a pint every so often, but I am no longer a drunkard thanks to God.
I no longer use drugs.
I am no longer a sex addict
Addicted to the thrill of the fight
No longer a violent man.
Thanks to God I am no longer a materialist with my highest concern being how much money I have.
Thanks be to God for leading me to Franciscan spiritual formation materials, thanks be to God for loving me no matter what, thanks be to Christ--for being my replacement.

Okay cause SCW usually bugs me about what my kids time is about at church, it lasted I think all of 2 minutes today (yes I'm a quickie).
The lectionary took us to the Gospel Story in Matthew 16:13-20 where Peter makes his confession of Jesus as the Christ.
So the lesson today:
Today's Gospel Story is not about Jesus answering our questions, Jesus changes things and brings a question to us. Who is Jesus to You?
(take answers from kids)
Can the congregation answer?
(take answers from the congregation)
To be a Christian means to be Christ-like, to be a friend of others and to love the world, take these weeks leading up to the start of school to practice and go forth and Live Christ.

How to explain what a Third Order Franciscan is:
The Three Aims of the Third Order are:To make our Lord known and loved everywhere. By word and example, Tertiaries witness to Christ in their daily lives. By prayer and sacrifice, we help forward God's work wherever He has called us. To spread the spirit of fellowship. By working happily with people of different race, color, creed, education and opportunity, Tertiaries seek to break down the divisions in the world. We try to live in the spirit of of St. Francis' prayer: "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace." To live simply. Acknowledging that everything belongs to God, we seek to use His gifts wisely and to be good stewards of this fragile earth, never destryoing or wasting what God has made. We provide the things necessary for ourselves and our families without demanding luxuries. We seek never to forget the needs of others.

Watching the news with the forced eviction of Israeli settlers in Gaza Strip, seeing little children chant "traitor" to the Jewish soldiers, and the young soldiers balling as more people die. One forced eviction, to compensate for a past forced eviction--to build more resentment--not peace---while praying my Daily Office this morning I came across these two prayers, one is the prayer for peace:
Almighty God our heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world into the way of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness, that they may become the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
and:
A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
May our world, heal itself in God's loving embrace...

My Rule of Life:
Is to recognize a Triune Faith and the diversity of the Body and the miracles that it can lead to. Through prayer (in the form of the Word, Meditation, and vocal) to discern where I am Meant to serve and by my service show the Love of Christ in my community, whatever forms it is meant to take in the Call of the Holy Spirit.
My lifetime ministry will be centred on God's calling (through prayer); Christ's Revelation (In scripture) and the Holy Spirit's empowerment (through Baptism).
1. Participate in the Eucharist every Sunday and on feast days.
2. Practice daily self-examination at night during my evening office and to practice reconciliation with a mentor once a year.
3. Personal Prayer inlcuding meditation, intercession, thanksgiving, song, and possibly, dance. I will spend time daily in prayer for fellow travellers on the path, our politcal and spiritual leaders, for those still seeking to know unconditional Love, and those too scared to accept it. I will spend time just listening to God, and his creation to know where I am meant to be and how to serve.
4. Self-Denial to I am called to know, and show empathy, for the brokeness of the world and its materialism, but not to indugle deeply in the gluttony of wants that have become needs in Canada. To share what God has blessed me with in service to those less fortunate whether it is spiritually or economically. As well as a voice for the voiceless in work for human rights and the relief of suffering. I will endeavour to a non-violent life.
5. I will take a silent retreat annually, and a weekly Sabbath.
6. Daily Bible study and meditation, through Franciscan formation materials, as well as the Daily Office.
7. Live Simplicity through choosing to live simply, eliminating excessive possessions, answering the call for need when it is made, not envying or competing with my neighbour, and sharing the blessings God has poured out on me with those who do not have as much.
8. Work: I will practice Christian values in the workplace.
9. My Obedience is to follow Christ, in particular through my vows to the TSSF through daily prayer, community obedience and intercessions for the Order. The Daily Office of Morning and Evening Prayer; meeting with my Spiritual Director; yearly renewal of pledge, monthly reporting to my formation counsellor; financial donations to the Order; and meeting with fellow travellers whenever possible.
Three scriptures I centre my service around, knowing that I am saved by Grace, but must respond are:James 2:18 (NASB) But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works and I will show you my faith by my works."Matthew 22:39 (NASB) "You shall love your neighbour as yourself";and the great commandment to Love God that came before it.(Matthew 22:34-40)

My journeys continue, as I have been led to a Franciscan path in my faith, I have made a tough decision through much prayer and discussion, to leave the OEF and to prepare to take my noviate vows within The Society of St. Francis, the Anglican Third Order.
If you want to know more www.tssf.org
It is something that needs prayer, but well worth the journey.

Always remember to forget the things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember the things that made you glad.
Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.
Always remember to forget the troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember the blessings that come each day.
Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never loved before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.
May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
May your neighbors respect you,
Trouble neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And heaven accept you.
May God grant you many years to live,
For sure He must be knowing
The earth has angels all too few
And heaven is overflowing.
But never forget to remember the things that made you glad.
Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue.

In honor of it being Hoody's birthday today, I've posted some catchy little birthday tunes I found online. (mischievous chuckle)
(To the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Twinkle, twinkle goes this song.
It's your birthday all day long.
Last year you were 26 years old.
This year you are 27 we're told.
Happy birthday, shining star.
Now we know how old you are.
(Had to put shining, couldn't call Hoody little, lol)
(to the tune of "Old MacDonald")
Hoody has a birthday.
Hip, hip, hip, hooray!
And on his cake, he has 27 candles.
What a happy day!
With a puff puff here
And a puff puff there,
Here a puff There a puff
Every where a puff, puff
Hoody has a birthday.
Hip, hip, hip, hooray!
(Yes my evil side is showing through, lol. Plus I wish I was in Calgary helping him celebrate it right now. (Heavy Sigh)) - SCW in AZ

An awesome organization working to shatter the cycle of child sweat shop labour. It is based out of Pakistan, and they PAY the KIDS to go to SCHOOL what they would make in the sweat shops so they can still contribute the much needed funding to their families, while building their education. What They Say. . .
(A Poem by Hoody)
They say I’m insane
That I blasphemyAnd teach false
That if I give himMoney
It’ll go up his arm
Or he’ll go into a bottle
Not to hang out with her
She’s a whore
Don’t hang with him
He’s a sinnerA liarA cheater
He can’t walk
But I say he can
Across the river
Let him see
Don’t do that
I’m told
For it’s a dayOf rest
But wouldn’t you
Help your child
Even if awoken?
Make bread
Feed the hungry
Don’t do that
God’s punishing them
They sinned
Don’t teach about Love
It’s a Law
But it’s a hope
A Joy
Don’t Baptize
Only John canI’m told,
But that’s wrong
For the Spirit indwells
In us
Don’t stop the stones
She’s an adulterer
Doesn’t matter
Don’t listen to me
I’m told I know nothing
Not to go there
That’s the wrong side of town
Not our people
But thenI’m onlyUpwardly Mobile Lower Class
I’m from a melded family
My step-father’s a carpenter,
We’re from that provinceY’know the one no one wants to go to.
Ever been treated like this?
Mocked?
Spit on?
Laughed at?
Beaten Up?
It’s okay,
They treated me like that to. .

Yes it is something some folks have been wondering. I am preparing to take my noviate vows once the finer points are shaken out.But what does it mean to be a secular monk. Secular means in the world. Serving, loving and living. The story of Jesus from the Gospels is one of a man who lived his life radically against the hierarchy to free the oppressed, feed the hungry, heal the sick, visit the prisoner, etc...all the forgotten ones of the world.St. Francis of Assisi was inspired to live his life like this and founded three orders:Friars Minor (traditional monks)Ordinary Claires (traditional nuns)Third Order (The Tertiaries, more commonly known as the Secular Franciscans). As one blessing from my order phrased it, Blessed with the foolishness to believe you CAN make a difference...
Ahhh so SCW was complaining that I haven't posted in a few (yes dear). So here goes, why haven't I?
Well it's been crazy busy with new ministry responsibilities at the church, and deciding which tertiary order of Franciscans I'll be taking my noviate vows with (depending on prayer and patience level) chuckle...
So yes this is short and sweet, but trying to think of something awe inspiring to write and nothing is coming to mind.

For His Glory by Greg Laurie
Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. — 1 Corinthians 10:31
I have read that fifty percent of evangelical Christians believe that happiness and personal fulfillment are the purpose of life. In other words, they believe that God put them on this earth so they could be happy and personally fulfilled. But that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches us again and again that we were created to bring glory to God.
The prophet Isaiah said, "Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him" (Isaiah 43:7). We were created to bring glory to God. Therefore, we are to glorify Him in all that we do with our lives, as the apostle Paul reminds us, "We who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory" (Ephesians 1:12).
Paul also tells us, "Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31), and "You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:20).
So you see, we were created to glorify God. We should give some thought to that, and ask ourselves, "How can I glorify God? Am I seeking God's will for my life? Am I seeking to walk the way He wants me to walk? Am I doing what He wants me to do?" It is in this commitment to bring Him glory that our life finds the purpose, meaning, and happiness that we are looking for.

And SCW gives a hearty Amen. There was a time in my life in high school/college when I turned from God. I'd hit some storms and trials of life and pretty much told God if that was the best He could take care of me I'd do it myself thank you very much. So I went on the pursuit of happiness and personal fulfillment and ended up making my life miserable. Praise Him, our God is a God of second chances. When He finally got my attention again the first thing He did right of the bat was show me who He truly was, and began building our relationship off of that, not off of my preconceived notions. Once I began to see who God was, it was so much easier to show my love for Him through my life and ask "Lord what can I do to bring Glory to You, to please You with my life?" Once I knew Him better, I knew without a doubt He was so worthy of glory, honor, and praise despite the circumstance because I knew Romans 8:28 was true, "God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." Now you have to use God's definition of good here not men’s. Have the trials lessen in my life, heck no! Do I always see a purpose in them, none except it drew me closer to my Lord and taught me to cling to Him. And He still is worthy of glory. My life has become so much more joyous and peaceful since I’ve learned this. So starting today let us all glorify God through our actions and in all areas and times of our lives for He is more than deserving of it.

I am not much of a poet but I can appreciate the talants of others and here is a poem that really touched my heart. May this be all of ours prayer. I can add a scripture verse to go with it. ;D - SCW in AZ

John 13:34-35 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (35) By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

To Love Like He Loves
by Mary Warner - Where Rubber Meets the Road
I want to love like Jesus loves, I want to learn His way
A love that seeks the other's best, and is not on display
I want to turn the other cheek when wrong is done to me
I want to love like Jesus does with peace and harmony
I want to love like Jesus loves, a love that does not bind
A love that is not rude or cruel, a love that is always kind
I want to keep no records of wrongs that come my way,
I want to love like Jesus loves, I want to learn His way
I want a love that protects, trusts, and always fosters hope,
A Love that will endure to the end of every rope,
A love that is patient, that does not envy or boast,
I want to love like the One, who always loved the most
I want to love like Jesus loves where self can never rule
I want to learn His secrets, and be taught in His school,
Oh if only I can be like Him, how happy I will be
If others see a bit of Him when they look at me

Help End Child Poverty in Canada. In 1989 the then Mulroney Progressive Conservative Government voted in favour of a bill pledging to eliminate child poverty in Canada by the year 2000 it is now 2005 and nothing has changed, in fact the situation has gotten drastically worse.

or write the party leaders: Paul Martin (Prime Minister); Stepher Harper (Conservative Party-Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition); Gilles Duceppe (Bloc Quebecois); and Jack Layton (New Democratic Party).
Canada is in a minority parliament that has already seen amazing and history making things happen as the voice of corporations has been sidelined, and the voice of average Canadians is coming to the surface. Please write and put pressure on the government to end Child Poverty as was promised almost 17 years ago.
Thank you

From Desert Wisdom by Yushi Nomura:
Abba Hyperrichius Said: The person who teaches others by actions, not by words, is truly wise.
and
Abba Poeman said: If a monk overcomes two things, he can be free from this worl. And a brother asked: What are they? He replied: Bodily ease and vainglory.
Any thoughts on these?

Two by Two - Os Hillman - Today God Is First - TGIF
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. Ecclesiastes 4:9
Have you discovered yet that you are incomplete by yourself? During my "warrior" stage of life you would have been hard-pressed to convince me that I needed you or anyone else. I know few people willing to admit their need for others, but many who live according to this principle. However, sooner or later we discover God's truth regarding our need for others.
God made us to need others. We may not discover this until we fail - fail in a business, a marriage, a close friendship, or in a client relationship. We are incomplete without the ongoing input from others into our lives. An independent spirit is one of the most detestable sins from God's viewpoint. It is the highest form of pride. "Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice" (Prov. 13:10). God has made each of us so that we have only so many gifts. He did not give any of us all the available gifts. Hence, we learn to depend on others and to humbly trust others to complete us where we are deficient.
David had Jonathan. Paul had Silas. John Wesley had George Whitefield. Martin Luther had Philip Melanchthon, who was 14 years younger. Martin Luther learned that he needed someone in his life to complete the work God called him to do. Luther had the greatest respect for this friend who helped him reform the Church of their day, and the Church as we know it at present. Luther learned a great deal from Melanchthon, who was a great scholar at a young age. He could speak several languages, and he became Professor of Greek at the new University of Wittenberg at 21 years of age. This was ten months after Luther posted his famous theses on the church door in Wittenberg. Melanchthon helped shape the Protestant movement of the sixteenth century through his research, writings, moral purpose, and religious conscience. Luther and Melanchthon became inseparable, and when they died, they were buried next to each other.
Who has God placed in your life to complete you? Perhaps it is a mate. Perhaps it is a close friend. Perhaps it is a business partner. If you lack this in your life, I encourage you to seek someone out who can speak into your life. If you have someone like this, tell him or her how much you appreciate the role he or she plays in your life.

SCW's Comments: Even though this is easier said than done it is well worth it to build this kind of relationship with people. With my mom and me it's taken 23 years to figure it out and we're still perfecting. People say we are so much alike but even though we are alike in some areas we are very different in others. We think what people see isn't that we are alike but it's that we balance each other. I encourage her in her strong areas, she encourages in mine. I build her up in her weak areas; she builds me up in mine. But there's the big kicker right there, we both have to be willing to admit our weaknesses to each other. We both have to be willing to swallow our pride and accept help and input from each other. We both have to be humble enough to admit when we're wrong. We both have to be patient with one another and listen to each other.
God's now brought Hoody into my life. We are very much alike in our passion for God and our heart for discipleship and outreach. And we are both very stubborn. (chuckle) As we've been quickly learning these last couple of days we both have very different communication styles, how we look at things, and how we approach things. Some of it's good; some of it's not so good. Both of us have had rough relationships in the past so we both pretty much know what we don't want to do. And it's been quite an adventure for both of us trying to figure out the right way to do things. (chuckle) To add to the challenge is working out this relationship long distance: him living in Canada, me in Arizona. And there are communication bonuses and disabilities that go with this. But through God's love and guidance we've been managing even if it doesn't always look all that graceful. He mentioned the triangle thingy in a comment to my “How to be a More Loving Person” on my other site. This is what he was talking about and what we are basing our relationship on. Draw a picture of a triangle, put God at the top, put you in the left hand corner, and put someone close to you in the right hand corner. It can be a mate, a close friend, a child, a parent. The beauty is it works for any relationship. Our goal in life as Christians is to reach the top, to be closer with God. When both people’s focus is to be closer to God (move you and that special someone up on the triangle) then they are closer to each other. Ok class clear as mud? (chuckle just wait till I get to the Star Trek and marriage analogies)
So this morning I just want to thank God for Ty and my mom in my life. Those two special people who are very dear to my heart and I can say I have this sort of relationship with. :D I pray God has blessed your life with someone like this. If He has take right now to comment and add them to the praise.
If you'd like more on Godly relationships I've been on sort of a relationship kick recently even before I met Hoody and you can find some execellent articles on my site Tammer's Information Byte under the catagories "All Things are Possible" and "Every Day Light".

SCW challenged me to show her my preaching style, here it is:
Matthew 19:18-26
“Going to the Unclean of the World”
Last week a woman was stoned to death somewhere in the world, her crime
having been raped.
Last night an underage prostitute was thrown from a moving vehicle, beaten and bloodied, no one stopped to help.
A baby, born premature, hooked on her mumma’s addiction slowly dies in neo-natal because the system has no room.
A grandmother lies alone in a hospice, with no visitors, open sores, emancipated, dying of AIDS she got from tainted blood in the 1980’s.
A teacher who slept with her student is kept in solitaire, no one reaching out to her with love.
On the playground a girl is tormented for having braces, being too smart or overweight.
These are the ones we dub “unclean”, and trust me the list is longer than I have said here. Who is unclean to you? Y’know the ones you see and you cringe, or cross the street? Can’t handle being in the same room as? Make you sick to your stomach, or so wracked with grief you are powerless?
(wait after each question for responses).
Who is our woman bleeding eternally?
Pause.
That is the kicker. The Disciples of Christ, were very much like us, the “can’t” touch those people crowd. Think about the background here. Jesus has just called Levi, a tax collector, to be one of his chosen 12…It would be akin to Batman bringing the Joker to join the Justice League.
Not only that but he is teaching the Pharisee’s and John The Baptist’s followers that they have the wrong idea of when to fast.
When Jesus is interrupted, now this father has chutzpah! I mean interrupting a rabbi, blurting out to him in the midst of teaching “my daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her and she will live.”
It would be like someone bursting in the middle of the church pointing at the Pastor and going, “You pastor to the hospital quick!! We need a resurrection!” The crowd is probably gawking; thinking to touch or be near a dead body makes one unclean. Did Jesus hem and haw—argue, debate, think of what happens next in verse 19 Jesus and the crew just up and follow, no further questions asked.
A simple faith statement springing to action.
What faith statements spring you to action? (Pause and wait for answers, throw in my, I’m God’s fool comment from the Four Fold Blessing).
But this is like the side story of this event, for in Verse 20-Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself “If I only touch his cloak I will be healed.”
12 years, while a woman was bleeding they were considered unclean under Levitical Law. Imagine twelve years of no one coming near you, no one touching you, your Husband avoiding your embrace out of fear they will become unclean.
Totally shunned by society. She reaches out and touches, hoping to go unnoticed.
In verse 22 Jesus turns and sees her. Imagine what was running through her mind, what would be running through your mind?
Fear…oh oh…busted…she is getting ready probably to be stoned, but instead Jesus acts like, well, Jesus. “Take heart daughter”, he said,”your faith has healed you.” And the woman was completely healed from that moment.
What would you be feeling?
What would you be thinking?
(Pause for reactions) 12 years of loneliness have ended, and Jesus hasn’t even gotten to his actual call.
Jesus arrives at the house, and the Wake is in full swing—in verse 24 he tells them to scat, why, because she isn’t dead. Now you have seen the girl, heard the doctor pronounce, and this guy comes up and says—na she ain’t dead. What are you thinking? A little doubting Thomas action going on I bet. And then follows up and says, she’s sleeping, how many think you’re talking to a nut job? Let’s see some hands people.
And they do, verse 24 closes with them laughing at him. But they get the crowd out of the house and outside. Jesus takes the girl by the hand and she wakes up…
Okay bearing witness to this outcome how many folks at the wake would think they had too much sacramental wine? Doing the eye rub thing? A double or even triple take?
Two impossible feats—two miraculous outcomes. Christ lived out God’s love and grace. We started talking about horrible things that happen to people and leave them alone, women in our own world that makes them unclean in our eyes. There are a million and one, if not infinite number of excuses, as to why not show Christ’s love to someone.
But there is only one command to show Christ’s love, Matthew 22:39 “Love your neighbour as yourself.” There was no excuses or ways out, no disclaimers only if your neighbour is this-this or this.
As these stories proved—Love everyone like Christ and watch the Miracles.
Go. Love. Experience the Christ Miracle through you.

woo hoo - figured out how to add links to the site! Can't wait till Hoody gets home to see. (big grin) Still haven't figured out why all our links are that darker blue yet, which is the default color for links, though. Everything in the code now says they should be a light blue. hmmmm.... a mystery I'll just have to tackle later since the gentleman I contract for called with more work. Which is a very good thing since Hoody and I are saving up for a plane ticket.
Being Captivated by God
(Hoody has been wanting me to post more and I have all these ideas but haven't managed to find the time to write. So here is something I've previously writen for my youth group. I like to write devotions that tie in with Christian music called Lessons from the Music. It started because I sing specials at my church and many times God will give me a message, sort of a mini-lesson to say before I sing. This year I went to a Dare 2 Share youth conference in March called Blaze. During the youth leader part of it they gave us a free copy of YLO - Youth Leaders Only Music Resource Magazine and in it were lessons you could teach your youth group based on current popular Christian songs. When I saw that I thought, "I can do this. I pretty much do this for special anyway. Thus was born Lessons from the Music. I hope you enjoy. - SCW in AZ)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you captivated by God? Does His majestic power and uncomprehending love boggle your mind and inspire instant praise and a deep longing to be closer to our Creator? Does the story of Jesus’ resurrection from the grave bring inexpressible joy to your heart when you hear it and build up the urge to give a loud “WooHoo! Thank You LORD!!”?
Recently I downloaded a computer game called “The Walls of Jericho”. In this game you’re Jehovah God, and the objective is to move blocks around on this wall to perform spectacular miracles and to amaze and inspire wonder in your followers, the Israelites, walking past this wall. If you fail to entertain them, and all of them walk off the screen the game is over. I noticed two things while playing. First, the more I performed the same miracle, the less awe inspiring effect it had on them. Second, sometimes even when I managed a completely new miracle a few would walk past like nothing happened! As I was frantically moving blocks around, striving to get my followers attention, and getting thoroughly frustrated with them the thought struck me, “I hope I don’t do this to God.” I was so stunned by the sudden thought, I quit playing. Needless to say all my followers walked off the screen and my game ended. I didn’t notice or care because I was fervently praying “Lord, please forgive me if I do this to You. Forgive me, if I take for granted Your wonderful miracles in my life and don’t give you the praise and worship You’re so worthy of.”
What Does Being Captivated With God Look Like?
Every part of Psalm illustrated David’s captivation for God. David longed to be with his Lord, delighted in his God’s Word, marveled at his Creator’s works, sung his King’s praises with all of his heart, and encouraged others to do the same. And for this he is know as “A man after God’s own heart”.
Psalm 27:4 (NAS) “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.”
Psalm 119:34-35 (NAS) “Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law And keep it with all my heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.”
Psalm 33:6-9 (NAS) “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. [7] He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. [8] Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. [9] For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.”
Psalm 9:1-2 (NAS) "I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. [2] I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High."
Psalm 112:1 (NAS) “Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who greatly delights in His commandments.”
Paul was so captivated by Christ that he gave up everything so he could know Him better and be sure to have fellowship with Him throughout eternity. Philip. 3:7-11 (MSG) “(7) The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I'm tearing up and throwing out with the trash--along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. (8) Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant--dog dung. I've dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ (9) and be embraced by him. I didn't want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ--God's righteousness. (10) I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself. (11) If there was any way to get in on the resurrection from the dead, I wanted to do it.”
Refocusing Our Attention
When my church’s choir was practicing this years Easter special, there was one particular song we struggled with. The timing was difficult, the harmony was awkward and it got to where we’d groan when it came time to practice it. It was "Alive!", the resurrection song. Then we started adding the narration that went along with the music and our readers focused our attention back to the reason why we were singing the song. Jesus is Alive! Once they finished dramatically saying “Christ is risen. He is Alive!” the choir found themselves enthusiastically belting out “Alive!” with gusto whether we managed to hit all the notes perfectly or not. It didn’t matter. We were celebrating our risen Lord and King!
Do you find your attention needs refocused back to the awesome, splendor of our Lord at times? Life will try to steal our attention away from God. We get busy, problems and people demand our concentration. So how do we battle this? The Bible tells us to continually seek the Lord with all of our heart (1 Chronicles 16:11, Jeremiah 29:13) and to delight ourselves in the Lord. (Psalm 37:4).
Hmmmm… Sound a lot like our two friends, David and Paul, from the Bible. This month I want to encourage all of us to daily seek and take delight in our Lord so our captivation with Him won’t diminish. Take time now to list specific ways in you’re life you do/can seek out and delight in God And may the words from Watermark’s Song “Captivate Us” be our hearts prayer.
Captivate Us
Watermark – Purest Place
Your face is Beautiful, and Your eyes are like the stars
Your gentle hands have healing, there inside the scars
You’re loving arms they draw me near, And You’re smile it brings me peace
Draw me closer, Oh my Lord, Draw me closer Lord to Thee
Chorus:
And Captivate us, Lord Jesus, Set our eyes on You
Devastate us with Your presence falling down…
And rushing river, draw us nearer
Holy fountain consume us with You
Captivate us Lord Jesus, with You
Your voice is powerful, and Your words are radiant bright
In You’re breath and shadow, I will come closer to Thine
You whisper love and life divine, and Your fellowship is free
Draw me closer, Oh my Lord, Draw me closer Lord to Thee
Chorus
And let everything be lost in the shadows of the Light of Faith
And let every chain, be broken from me as I’m bond in Your grace
For Your yoke is easy, Your burden is light
You’re full of wisdom, power and might
And every eye, will see You
Chorus
Captivate us Lord Jesus, with You
Captivate us
Recently I downloaded a computer game called “The Walls of Jericho”.
