Ahh an election's in the air in Canada...the surest sign is that the government is really starting to dialogue with the people for solutions to problems...We have had an increase of Gang violence which has included shootings and executions (note the word: Shootings--guns are involved).
So an idea is being floated to add mandatory minimum sentences in for gun offenses, which on the surface seems like a good idea (I know I am tired of burying friends who made some wrong choices).
But the thing that happens with all these new laws being floated is that it just increases that which we need to know...rather how about just using the existing laws as a frame work, to deal with criminals, and murder (regardless of the weapon used) as murder and using the full penalty in the Federal Law of Canada-That would be 25 years in Jail. I know it's a wonky idea, but then hey...that's what you get is wonky ideas that could actually work.
